Field Trip to Historic Trinity Lutheran Church

The Huddle had such an amazing field trip!  Thanks to all that drove and chaperoned today.  Historic Trinity was absolutely wonderful.  I was super proud of our class too.  They displayed good choices and maturity while at the church.

Here is a link to an unlisted YouTube video of the choir singing today.  The video is recorded from the balcony area.  Thanks to Mrs. Stecker for all of her hard work so we could have such an amazing trip and sharing this video with us.

I am so thankful for this day with the Huddle!

Tuesday, April 23

Today, the Huddle had Music, Spanish, and P.E.

We finished two chapters in Little House.  Ask your child about the two stout doors and the wolf pack.

I am so proud of the progress the Huddle is making with their math brochures, and Xtra Math.

Lots of third graders are working on memorizing where the states are located as well on the U.S.A. map.  I love seeing all the learning that is taking place each day.

In Math today, we focused on problem solving with addition and subtraction.

Check out the posters we made for Earth Day!

Our field trip to Historic Trinity Lutheran is tomorrow!  Look for details and driving assignments coming to you in an email today after school.

Monday, April 22

Happy Earth Day!

We shared our prayer requests and weekend writing.

We celebrated a summer birthday and our student of the week shared his poster.

The Huddle looked up verses about the world He made.  We made posters for ways to care for the world.

Chapters 5 and 6 were our reading focus in Little House on the Prairie.

We practiced our nine cursive spelling words.

In Math, we showed the relationship between addition and subtraction.  Tonight’s homework is 8.10.

Fluency for the week is on Earth Day.

Huff’s Huddle Newsletter for April 22-26, 2026

Huddle Families,

Here’s your link to this week’s newsletter.

Third grade is looking forward to our field trip on Wednesday to Historic Trinity Lutheran Church. If you signed up to drive or chaperone, I am counting on you. I will send an email after school on Tuesday with driving and car assignments. If you signed up to drive, please make sure all your forms are turned into the office. Thanks so much for your help and support. We will wear regular dress code for this field trip.

This week, your child will bring home a copy of the Where Do Babies Come From? book.  This book has not been shared with your child yet.  In front of each book is a letter from Mr. Brown explaining our goal to assist families in grade level appropriate discussions from a Christian perspective.  Please read the book over with your child and discuss it as a family between now and when the books are returned on Friday, May 3.  Each book also has an index card enclosed if your child has any questions for me to cover in class.  Mr. Brown will lead a discussion with third and fourth grade boys after May 3rd. Miss Adams and I will lead a discussion with third and fourth grade girls.

This week, Friday is a half day dismissal with release at 11:30. I will be working on Mid-Term reports that afternoon. It is hard to believe that there is only a half trimester left to the school year.

Tomorrow is Earth Day. The Huddle will be looking at this day from a Christian perspective as we look up in our Bibles what God says about taking care of His creation. Fluency reading for the week focuses on Earth Day as well.

We wrap up Unit 8 in Math this week too.  We return to spelling words that are easier to practice in cursive…8 of our words will be in cursive this week.

I am taking a break from our study of the commandments this week to memorize “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14) This verse is a good reminder for our hearts and minds.

With anticipation of a wonderful week with the Huddle,
Mrs. Huff

Thursday, April 18

We started the day with cursive about Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Today, we had Choir and P.E.

In Spelling, we worked on vocabulary A-Z plus studied as a class in the afternoon.

We covered chapter 4 in Little House, “Prairie Day”.

In Math, we worked on regrouping and borrowing.  Tonight’s homework is 8.9.

Many students finished up Regions and Michigan homework.

We are making great progress on our brochures and Xtra Math.

Fluency on the Great Molasses Flood is due tomorrow.  Friday tests on the tests, states, and seventh commandment.

Wednesday, April 17

Today started with chapel.  Mr. Wenzelburger from Lutheran High North shared with us.

After chapel, the Huddle had a mini class meeting about remembering to use “thinking thoughts” with our peers.

In Math, we worked on subtraction with a number line and mental math.  The Huddle is also up to X5 in our multiplication brochures.

Mrs. Moore worked with the Huddle during computer class.

The skies stayed sunny and we were able to go outside for recess.

We worked on chapter three in Little House called Camp on the High Prairie.  Ask your child about the good news of this chapter.

Miss Adams came over for Michigan History.  The Huddle worked on Midwest and Great Lakes regions.

Our student of the week chose a storyline online for us as well.

Tuesday, April 16

The Huddle had Music, Spanish, and P.E.

We finished Chapter 2 of Little House on the Prairie, called “Crossing The Creek.”  We had a huge pioneer discussion today.  Each student chose 5 items they would pack if they were moving west.  It was hard to choose what to take and be satisfied with our choices.

Our Student of the Week shared their board.

In Math, we are working on our Math brochures for multiplication.

We started a new Magic Tree House book called Buffaloes Before Breakfast.

Monday, April 15

Mrs. L invited us to paint our water lilies in Art class.

We shared our prayer requests and weekend writing.

The Huddle shared all our favorite things about our student that celebrated their summer birthday.

The Huddle started to learn about the pioneers and began our book, Little House on the Prairie.  We read chapter 1, “Going West.”  We wrote about what it would be like to move west and leave all our friends, extended family, and many of our belongings behind for good.

We wrapped up our brochure on I Survived the Great Molasses Flood.

In Math, we worked on adding three or more multiple digit numbers.  For homework, we have numbers 1-6 on 361 and #11 on the back of the page for Lesson 8.6.

We looked over our new pioneer spelling words for the week.

We celebrated our summer birthday at the birthday tree and with a bday treat.

Our fluency assignment for the week focuses on the Great Molasses Flood of Boston.

Huff’s Huddle Newsletter For April 15-19

Huddle Families,

Here’s your link to our newsletter.

I pray you had a wonderful weekend soaking up this gorgeous weather! I went on a quick getaway to Frankenmuth to celebrate my son’s birthday. It is always so special to soak up time with family.

Be sure to check out our photos from our chemical reaction experiment with volcanoes on DaySee and our class blog.

Permission slips came home this past week for our next field trip to Historic Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit on Wednesday, April 24. If you have not returned your child’s permission slip yet, please do so as soon as possible. If you need a new copy, please let me know. This will be a special trip as Historic Trinity is the home church of Barrett, one of our Huddle members. His mom, Mariana, works at the church as well and has been so helpful in helping arrange our trip. The Huddle will sing, tour the church, go on a scavenger hunt, and enjoy a catered lunch while we are there. The lunch being served is macaroni and cheese (which I hear may have a special twist of some pepperoni in it), fruit salad, and a cookie. We plan to leave school that day at 10:00 a.m. and will leave Historic Trinity at 1:30 p.m. Thanks so much for my chaperones and drivers that make this trip possible. The cost of the trip, which is $7, covers our lunch.

The Huddle is beginning our pioneer study of Little House on the Prairie.  Despite the difference in modern day versus the 1800s life, the class is discussing the concepts of moving and packing.  We are putting ourselves in the shoes of the Ingalls family and what the adventure must have been like for them.  The Huddle is reading this book through the lens of information we learned with Trail of Tears in the fall.

Thankful for another week together in the Huddle,

Mrs. Huff
